The City of Pikeville undertook the improvement of approximately 850 linear feet of Elm Street though the Pikeville College Campus. The improvements included the realignment of Elm Street and lowering the overall grade of the road.
Summit Engineering, Inc. was retained to assist the City in all aspects of the project, from right-of-way services and base mapping, through site civil design. The design of the project included storm sewer, pavement design, and line and grade for approximately 827 linear feet of roadway.
The project included demolition of existing structures, placement of 8,000 cubic yards of fill, and construction of approximately 200 linear feet of concrete cantilever retaining walls (4’ to 12’ in height). Elm Street was widened to upgrade the narrow roadway to include an exclusive left turn lane from Elm Street onto Hambley Boulevard. The typical section included segments of three-lane and two-lane road with curb and gutter. The improvements also included all new storm drainage structures and the relocation of approximately 500 linear feat of 6” water
main and 2” gas main.
