Kentucky Avenue Roadway & Utilities Project
Client: City of Pikeville—Pikeville, Kentucky
The City of Pikeville undertook a large scale neighborhood revitalization project near the downtown area surrounding Pikeville College to ultimately include approximately 40-acres over 5 phases. The narrow one-way streets provided poor access and storm drainage systems were non-functioning or non-existent.
Summit Engineering, Inc. was retained to assist the City in all aspects of the project, from right-of-way services and base mapping, through site civil design, to final architectural plans for new townhouse units. The Kentucky Avenue corridor comprised Phase II and IV. This 2,300 linear feet roadway and side streets was widened to upgrade the narrow roadway to two-way traffic and create suitable building pads for new townhomes. The project included demolition of existing structures, placement of 15,000 cubic yards of fill, and construction of pproximately 1,800 linear feet of concrete cantilever and pile & lagging retaining walls (6’ to 20’ in height). The improvements also included all new utilities and storm drainage systems.
